Honor Culture,

5000 women get’s killed yearly according to the UN statistics. These women does not die by accident, they get murdered by family members, husbands and relatives. Why? Because they broke the honour cultures rules and dishonour their families. It could be about marrying the man you love against the family’s will or infidelity within marriage. Simple mistakes like these can lead to something as horrible as murder. Father’s murdering their daughters, although it’s bizarre it is very common amongst people from Asia, especially from the Middle East. Oppression of women has been going on for a long time therefore I stand against the honour culture; according to me honour killing should not even exist.

First of all I would like to say that the honour culture breaks the UN: s fundamental rules about human rights. The universal declaration states that any human being has the right to be treated well and equal whether it’s gender, ethnicity, race, religion, culture, gender etc. The UN says that “Honor killings are an extreme form of gender violence”, therefore the UN made a declaration in 1993 which condemns any physical, sexual or mental violence against women. Now earlier I said that 5000 women get killed but millions get hurt in other ways which is related to the honor culture. These innocent women are taken away their rights and only have small voices that are not heard by many.
